A free day in Kozhikode does not need a brochure. It needs a start time and one place you care about. These four are the ones visitors actually finish.
Kappad, north of the city
Kappad is the beach associated with Vasco da Gama’s landing in 1498. It is a coast day: sand, a walk, and back. Go in the morning if you want the light, and do not stack it with a hill. Tell the driver Kappad beach, not “a beach”, because Kozhikode Beach in the city is a different place.
Beypore, south of the city
Beypore is the old port, still known for the wooden uru boats. It is a short outstation from the city, a good second half of a day if the morning was the railway station or the market. Say whether you want the port area or the beach. They are neighbours, not identical stops.
Thusharagiri, a waterfall day
Thusharagiri is in the eastern hills of Kozhikode district, a common day trip when Wayanad is too far. The road is slower than the coast. Start earlier than a beach day, wear shoes you can get wet, and agree a return time so the driver is not guessing in the car park. This is still a cab day, not a trek we are guiding.
Wayanad, if the whole day is free
The road is NH 766 through Kunnamangalam, where IIM Kozhikode sits, then the Thamarassery ghat toward Kalpetta. One main stop is a day. Edakkal, Pookode and a string of viewpoints together is how a weekend becomes a rush. Pick one. If the forecast is heavy rain, the ghat is slower and the view is gone. How to ask for the cab
Write the date, the stops in order, and whether the cab waits. Waiting is part of the fare. A one-way drop to a relative’s house is a different quote from a loop back to Palayam. There is no package price on the tours page. You describe the day. We say the number before the car leaves.

Questions people ask
Which trip is realistic if we start at noon?
Kappad or Beypore. Thusharagiri is tighter. Wayanad over the ghat is a poor noon start if you also want to be back for a late dinner.
Are these packages?
No. They are days you can ask a cab to do. The fare is quoted for the hours and the stops. Entry fees are paid at the gate.
What if it is raining hard?
Skip the ghat and the waterfall viewpoint. A coastal stop still works in ordinary rain. If the forecast is a storm, stay in the city.
