Wayanad day trip from Kozhikode
A group day over the Thamarassery ghat: Lakkidi, Pookode Lake, and then either Banasura Sagar Dam or Edakkal Caves. Kerala Tourism’s driving note puts Kozhikode to Wayanad at about 87 km. The two sights past Kalpetta are not on the same road.

- About 87 km from Kozhikode to Wayanad on Kerala Tourism’s driving list. Pookode is near Vythiri, before Kalpetta. Edakkal (Ambalavayal) and Banasura (Padinjarathara) are past Kalpetta, on different roads, each about 20–30 km further.

- About 2 to 2.5 hours to the Pookode side. About 3 hours to Edakkal or Banasura. The return uses the same ghat.

- October to February is the clearer window. June to September is greener, slower, and often in cloud. Leave early if you want more than the lake.

Suggested route and stops
The road is NH 766. IIM Kozhikode and CWRDM at Kunnamangalam are already on it. From NIT Calicut at Chathamangalam, or from Government Medical College on Mavoor Road, the first leg is the ride out to that road. Say which gate, so the trip starts there.
Climb the nine hairpin bends at Thamarassery. Lakkidi is the short viewpoint stop at the top. Pookode Lake is the main stop near Vythiri. After Kalpetta, Banasura and Edakkal fork. A fair day is the lake plus one of them. All three, and a return the same evening, is a late ghat descent. Tell us the time you must be back on campus.
The cab can wait while you walk. Waiting is part of the conversation when we agree the trip. Entry at a gate is paid there. We do not guide the cave steps or a dam walk.

Can a group of seven see Pookode, Banasura and Edakkal in one day?
Pookode plus one of the other two is a fair day if you leave early. All three usually means a late return over the ghat. Say which stops you will actually do.
