Getting to Calicut University, Thenhipalam

The University of Calicut’s main campus is at Thenhipalam, about 24 km south of Kozhikode. How to tell a cab which block, from the city or the airport.

The University of Calicut’s main campus is at Thenhipalam in Malappuram district. The university’s about page says the campus is 24 km south of Kozhikode, and that the administration, the library, the teaching departments and Pareeksha Bhavan sit on that campus. The postal address used on official letters is Calicut University P.O., Malappuram 673635.

The name confuses people. “Calicut University” sounds like a college inside Kozhikode. It is a drive south, on the road toward Malappuram.

From Kozhikode railway station or the city

You leave the city southbound. It is longer than a medical-college hop and shorter than a Wayanad day. Buses run along this corridor through the day. A cab is what you want for a morning viva, a parent with luggage, or a plan that continues to a train. Say the department. The CHMK library, an academic school and the examination block are not one porch. “University gate” can still be the wrong gate.

From Calicut Airport

The airport is at Karipur, also in Malappuram, north of the campus rather than in Kozhikode city. A newly landed student sometimes assumes the two share a fence. They do not. Tell the driver Thenhipalam and the department, and send the flight number if you want to be met. If you need the city first, say that too. It is a different shape of trip and a different fare.

Exam days

The road and the gates are busier. Book the previous day. If you want the same cab to wait through a paper, the wait is part of the quote. Booking the return when you finish is usually the more affordable choice, and you can send it from the campus.
